The survey field service technician collects field data utilizing common surveying equipment.
Essential Functions:
Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment and instruments to collect field data, reporting data back to surveyors and other Wightman professionals
Measure, record, and calculate data based on instrument readings
Layout, locate and recover markings, stakes, and other such signifiers at work locations
Help create drawings and computer images of job locations
Maintain equipment and vehicles
Assist in conducting surveys to determine location of natural features and man-made structures on the surface, underground or underwater
Collect information needed to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records and other relevant information
Perform manual labor such as bending, digging with a hand shovel, cutting brush for lines, carrying equipment, stakes, rebar and other items that may be heavy (5-50 lbs)
Required Traits & Characteristics:
Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work within established budgets and deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Computer knowledge and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to work in all weather conditions and various types of physical environments
Organizational Relationships:
Reports directly to Survey Project Manager
Required Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education/Experience:
Associates degree or higher
Certified Survey Technician
2+ years related experience
Travel:
Position based in Hastings or Kalamazoo
Travel may be required
